Dearborn High School

Week Ahead

Greetings Pioneers,

We had a great Friday at DHS! Freshmen Tailgate was a lot of fun and well attended by our freshmen.  It was nice to spend time with our newest Pioneers and their Link Crew Leaders. The football game that followed was a great win for DHS.

Friday afternoon was full of professional development for our dedicated teaching staff who worked with content/grade-like colleagues to calibrate their grading and teaching practices.   Teachers continue to spend time  building positive relationships with their students and getting to know them while establishing their rules, procedures in class.

Student planners were also distributed -on Friday- to all students. Since it was a half day, each teacher  spent the morning on lessons and activities as they rolled out and engaged students in activities teaching our policies (i.e. cell phone, attendance, tardy policies, dress code, etc).  We are also proud to bring back  PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports) to create a positive and systematic way of rewarding and addressing behaviors.  More information about PBIS – along with the matrix – can be found in the student planners.

PBIS is a program funded through grants which have certain requirements and recommendations to ensure implementation with fidelity and inclusion of all students to improve the climate and culture of the school.  For this reason, the annual PBIS survey was sent to all students as part of the planner/PBIS  activities engaging students this morning. Although one of the answer options was “prefer not to answer” and students had the option of skipping any question they didn’t want to answer, we realize that two questions on the survey are concerning to some parents and students. We apologize for this and want to be clear the survey was open for one hour  and is no longer available or accepting responses.

Please be sure to ask your child for their planner and go over the policies with them to ensure they are aware of all the expected behaviors at school.
