Dearborn High School

A Message From the Principal

October 3, 2023

Greetings Pioneers,

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone in our Dearborn High community for sharing messages of support over the last two days as we refocus our attention on teaching and learning. I especially want to thank the Dearborn Police, Securatech Guard Services, Student Services,  District Health, Safety and Security staff, and the incredible staff here at Dearborn High for all the support they have provided.

Although most of you already know this, it’s important to restate that the events that took place on Saturday evening and Monday morning are not the norm for Dearborn High. Students need to understand that there are serious consequences for taking part in actions that disrupt and cause harm. We will follow our student discipline process and those students involved will be held accountable for their actions.

I would also like to assure our parents that our school remains a safe and welcoming environment for all students. However, I do understand that when a situation occurs that is so out of the ordinary, it can create feelings of uncertainty. That is why for the next two weeks we will have extra administrative support from central office in our school and there will be an additional security presence in the building. More importantly, we will be talking with students and reinforcing many of the support mechanisms already in place that help students resolve issues before they reach the levels they did this past weekend.  We will continue to implement restorative practices and PBIS along with other interventions to be proactive and reinforce positive student behaviors.

As a school, and as a community, we will not let these isolated incidents influence the safe learning environment in our building that all of us have worked to create.  We must continue to work together in order to ensure our school remains the very best place for your children to grow, thrive, and learn.  We are Pioneer strong!
