Graduates may bring two family members but will also need a driver to remain with the vehicle as graduates and family members walk the commencement route.
Additional Information:
What is it exactly? It is everything that a typical commencement ceremony is, just without the large crowd/group. You’ll need two things, yourself in a cap and gown and someone driving you in a vehicle that will be able to drop you off and keep pace with you as you walk the commencement route. As graduates enter the parking lot by the football field, you will exit your car with your family near the cafeteria. From there, you will have a few photo opportunities and will walk with your family, while keeping a 6 foot distance from other graduates, to the front of the building. In the front of the building, there will be a stage area where you will get your name read, receive your diploma, and have your family there to celebrate. After you cross the stage, you will then get picked up by the vehicle that you came in as they will have been following you along, and then go to the student lot to pick up your paper diploma, student file, and any other documents that we might have for you.
Who can come with me? Please limit guests to two people who will walk with you on the commencement route. You and your family will have multiple chances to take pictures and enjoy the experience. You will need a driver who will stay in the car that brought you and drive along the commencement route.
What do I do? When you arrive, we will direct you where to go and what to do. Once you get out of your car, you’ll be following the sidewalk from the side of the building to the front of the building where you will eventually cross the stage and get your diploma.
What about my friends? The whole event will be live streamed so you can watch all of your classmates cross the stage either from home or on your smartphone.
What about student speeches? To kick off the event, starting at 3:30 pm there will be two student speeches which will also be live streamed. One from your class president and the other from an at large speaker. If you are interested in giving the at-large speech, you will need to apply and record your video for a panel of judges (teachers) who will then choose. We will send out more information on the at-large speech next week, so start thinking about if you want to do it and what you would say.
What if it rains? The alternative weather date is July 17th.
