One lesson learned during virtual schooling in 2020 is that in-person learning is a valuable part of the school experience. In addition to state law that requires regular school attendance, Dearborn Public Schools and Dearborn High School believe that consistent school attendance is important for a student’s success and benefits a student’s overall school experience. To support the requirement and goal of attending school daily, Dearborn High School continues to implement its audit policy for attendance.
Students are permitted 9.5 absences for any reason per semester (all of these absences should be called in by a parent and excused). Once a student exceeds 9.5 absences, they are placed on “audit” for that semester and MAY receive reduced credit for each class that has exceeded the 9.5 absences. In other words, a student may only receive .25 credit for a semester class instead of .5 credits for that class – possibly resulting in the need for credit recovery classes to replace the lost credit. THat means the student will need to take the class again to receive the necessary credit. This has been past practice and is not new.
What kinds of absences count toward the total resulting in audit? Any excused or unexcused absences that are not in the EXEMPT categories (see the next question below) count towards audit; although there should be zero unexcused absences as we ask parents to call in and verify all absences. Additionally, tardies and lates contribute to a student’s total attendance based on the following formulas: 4 tardies (less than five minutes late) = 1 absence, 2 Late after 5 Minutes (between 5 and 15 minutes late) = 1 absence, and 1 Late after 15 minutes = 1 absence. Please note that absences due to family trips-for any reason-count towards audit totals.
What types of absences are EXEMPT from the total contributing to audit? All school related absences, including suspensions from school, do not count towards audit totals. COVID related quarantines, as approved by the school nurse, do not count. Any medically documented absences, as approved by the school nurse, also do not count (this does not mean dentist or doctor’s appointments, but rather illnesses or surgeries where a doctor has restricted a student’s ability to attend school for either their own safety or the health and safety of other students).
So what should a student do if they are on audit or unsure if they are on audit? First, improve attendance immediately. Improving daily attendance could help open up additional options to earn full credit in your classes. Talk to your counselor or a member of the office support team. They can guide students in finding solutions to address attendance issues and complications. Lastly, study for final exams! Scoring a 78% or higher on a cumulative final exam will restore full credit in an audited class.

يُسمح للطلاب ب 9.5 ساعات غياب لأي سبب خلال الفصل الواحد (يجب على الأهالي الإبلاغ عن هذه الغيابات وشرح الأسباب). وما إن يتخطى الطالب حاجز 9.5 ساعات، حتى يتم وضعه على لائحة “تدقيق الدوام” للفصل المذكور ويمكن أن يحصل على رصيد مُخفض لكل صف فاق غيابه 9.5 ساعات. بكلمات اخرى، يمكن أن يحصل على ربع رصيد بدلا من نصف رصيد للصف المذكور – مع ما يؤدي إلى إحتمال الحاجة إلى التعويض عن الأرصدة المفقودة عبر الصفوف الإضافية. ويعني ذلك أن على الطالب/الطالبة أخذ هذا الصف مجدداً للحصول على الرصيد المطلوب. وهذا ليس بالأمر الجديد، بل ما كان متبعاً طوال السنوات الماضية.
ماهي أنواع الغيابات المحتسبة في إجمالي الغيابات التي تؤدي إلى التدقيق في الدوام (Audit)؟ أي غياب مبرر أو غير مبرر غير مدرج في خانات الإعفاء (انظر إلى السؤال التالي) يُحتسب في تدقيق الدوام؛ عمليا لا داعي لوجود أي غياب غير مبرر حيث نطلب من الأهالي الإتصال بالمدرسة والتحقق من جميع الغيابات. إضافة إلى ذلك، فان التأخر البسيط (tardy) والتأخر الزائد (late) يساهم في مجموع دوام الطالب/الطالبة بناءً على الصيغ التالية: 4 تأخرات بسيطة (أقل من 5 دقائق) = حصة غياب كاملة ،؛ 2 تأخر زائد (بين 5 و 15 دقيقة) = حصة غياب كاملة ؛ 1 تأخر أكثر عن 15 دقيقة = حصة غياب كاملة. نرجو الإنتباه إلى أن الغيابات بداعي الرحلات العائلية – مهما كانت الأسباب – تُحتسب في مجموع تدقيق الدوام.
ماهي أنواع الغيابات المعفاة من مجموع تدقيق الدوام؟ جميع الغيابات المتعلقة بالمدرسة، بما فيها التوقيف عن الدراسة معفاة من مجموع تدقيق الدوام. كذلك تُعفى الغيابات الموافق عليها من ممرضة المدرسة والناجمة عن الحجز الصحي المتعلق بجائحة كوفيد. كما تُعفى من تدقيق الدوام جميع الغيابات الطبية الموثقة والموافق عليها من ممرضة المدرسة (لا يعني هذا موعد طبيب الأسنان أو الموعد مع الطبيب العام، بل الأمراض والجراحات التي يمنع الطبيب الطالب/الطالبة من التنقل وحضور المدرسة حرصا على سلامته/سلامتها أو على صحة وسلامة الطلاب الآخرين) .
ما الذي يتوجب على الطالب/الطالبة فعله في حال كان/ كانت على لائحة تدقيق الدوام أو غير متأكد/متأكدة من وضعه/وضعها؟ أولا، حسن دوامك فوراً ذلك أن تحسين الدوام اليومي يمكن أن يساعد على فتح خيارات إضافية للحصول على رصيد كامل في جميع الصفوف. تحدث إلى مستشارك أو إلى أحد أعضاء فريق المساندة حيث يمكنهم إرشاد الطلاب لايجاد حلول تعالج مشاكل وتعقيدات الدوام. أخيرا، ادرس/ادرسي للإختبار النهائي! الحصول على 78% أو أكثر في الامتحان النهائي التراكمي يعطيك رصيدا كاملا للصفوف الخاضعة لتدقيق الدوام.
