Student Voice Corner:

Living in Liberty, written by Zeina Baydoun-Freshman at DHS.

We are brought into this world to live life to the fullest. However, if you are constantly thinking of how others will view you, you will be stopped from being able to live your life entirely. For this reason, hold onto your liberty, and live in it. Liberty is “The state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life and behavior.”

We all have the freedom to be ourselves, yet most still try to project a version of themselves that they truly are not. Why is that? Although the definition of liberty includes being free from oppressive restrictions imposed by others, we still encounter hate. One may judge you for wearing a Hawaiian button-up in your small city town, during winter, but if you feel confident and free, you will not be affected by that. Instead, you will view their comment in a way that shows you are unique and will value that.

The only way that you will feel free and confident is if you impose liberty on your life. You need to view hate comments differently and analyze them to the fullest of your abilities to reach the uniqueness engraved in them. It is then that you realize, you frankly possess freedom, and it is time to live in it.
