Dearborn High School

Week Ahead

Greetings Pioneers,

Huge congratulations to our Thespians for putting on an outstanding musical that drew a large crowd from the community. Great job, Pioneers and thanks to all who came out and supported our talented students!

April is  Arab American Heritage Month! During this time, we celebrate Arab Americans throughout the past and present, and recognize their invaluable contributions to our country. It also serves as a time to combat Anti-Arab bigotry and to challenge stereotypes and prejudices. The Principal Student Advisory Council hosted   our annual Arab American Heritage Fair on Thursday, April 24th. Student volunteers from various clubs such as the Lebanese Student Association, Discover Islam Club, Amity Club, Arabic Club, and many others assisted during all lunches. All three regions in the Arab World were highlighted – Levant, Gulf, and North African Regions. Cultural displays, activities, cultural dances, food, coffee/tea, dessert and so much more were served on display. Check out the blog for pictures of the event! Thank you to all our sponsors and student leaders who helped make this event a huge success!

Our American Sign Language Club will be raising funds for  Leader Dogs for the Blind, specifically the dogs that assist the deaf/blind clients.  They are planning on doing sugar cookie goody bags for Mother’s Day, with cookies in the shapes of flowers and the “I love you” ASL hand shape🤟.  Students would pre-order through a Google Form that they will  email out to students via email on Monday and then the ASL Club would deliver the bags on Friday May 9th. Contact Ms. Edgerton for more information.

Friendly Reminder to all students who ride the bus: You are not permitted to ride buses other than the one you are assigned to. When multiple shuttle buses serve the same school, you may ride either bus to reach your  home school. However, you  are not allowed to use shuttle buses to travel to other buildings, such as Fordson and Edsel.  Doing so may result in consequences, which may include your bus privileges being suspended.

We’re excited to announce that Dearborn High School will host a Driving Safety Simulator for THE UPCOMING WEEK (April 28-May 2) to help students explore and understand the dangers of risky driving behaviors in a safe and engaging way. Encourage your student to sign up for a spot in the simulator using the following link or by talking to Corporal Hanson – our SRO:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904054DAAA722A0FF2-56406646-dhsdriving

🧠 What Is It?

This virtual driving experience will allow students to safely navigate scenarios involving:

  • 📵 Distracted Driving (texting, talking, eating)
  • 🌧️ Weather Hazards
  • Reckless Driving

🚙 Why It Matters

Car crashes are one of the leading causes of death for teens in the U.S. This simulator is a powerful way to help students:

  • Recognize and avoid dangerous behaviors
  • Learn safe driving habits before they’re behind the wheel
  • Gain confidence to make smart decisions
  • Understand real consequences—without the real risk

👨‍👩‍👧 What Families Can Do

You play a key role in your teen’s safety. Here are a few simple ways to support this experience:

  • Start a conversation about what they learned
  • Model safe driving habits at home
  • Set family rules for car use and phone use
  • Discuss peer pressure and how to say no

As we get closer to graduation, we will begin announcing and sharing the calendar for senior events/festivities. One specific event I’d like to highlight is our Second Annual Senior Walkthrough which will take place on May 23rd, 2025.  This is a chance for seniors to visit their feeder schools, so they can celebrate their successes and serve as role models for our future Pioneers. It is also a chance to motivate our elementary and middle school students by showing them some of the festivities that await them – when they graduate from high school. Last year, we had a beautiful turn out and we are hoping this year will  be a large success. We look forward to this year’s walkthrough! If you have any questions or concerns, please let Ms. AboulHosn know.  Her email is: aboulhg@dearbornschools.org. THERE WILL BE A SIGN-UP SHEET IN THE CAFETERIA FOR ALL INTERESTED SENIORS.

For your planning, I am sharing the scheduled events of festivities for our seniors and will keep adding to this.  Senior Mini Schedule

Please make note that the last day of school is June 6th. Students are expected to be in attendance for their final exams which will take place on June 4th, 5th, and 6th. Students will not be allowed to take their final exams before then. Please plan your summer travels accordingly.
