April is Autism Acceptance/Awareness Month and it’s all about building understanding, breaking stigma, and celebrating the diversity of the autism community! It’s a time to move beyond just “awareness” and focus on acceptance, support and belonging.
Autism is a neurological difference, not a disorder to be “fixed”. It impacts how people experience the world, communicate, process information, and connect with others. Every autistic individual is unique – and that’s something to be honored, not hidden. At DHS, we have two classrooms that are part of the ASD center based program. We will have our annual Door Contest for Autism Awareness/Acceptance throughout the month of April while decorating throughout the school. Teachers include their students in this process to celebrate and promote inclusion of ALL. In addition, our social workers are sure to highlight and provide celebrations throughout the month.

Ms. Bazzy (our social worker), Ms. Saab (ASD teacher) and our wonderful team of paraprofessionals who support our ASD students.

Our amazing social workers who have taken the lead on celebrating Autism Acceptance Month!
